Keit Games is dropping Cubic! for iOS April 2nd and we were lucky enough to check it out a few days ago. It’s shaping up to be a game with a very simple premise that can get out of hand rather quick. And trust me, I mean that in the best way possible.
You start off with a single unit which can move a single space. Each turn spawns a new unit for your army, as well as one for the opposition. You can only move one unit at a time, all others will move in the last subsection direction you told them to. Units can also be combined to gain strength or spread out to form multiple squads which is when things get interesting.
Your main goal, other than surviving, is protecting the center of the board, which is where your units spawn. This gives incentive to protect the center since units spawn at level 1 and can quickly be thrown to the dust if they’re not absorbed or protected by their stronger friends.
While I haven’t been able to get into any particularly complex situations, it looks like things can get pretty crazy and the learning curve is just sharp enough to keep you wanting that next high score. That’s definitely enough for me to keep playing Cubic for a good while.
There may still be a few promo codes available on the Touch Arcade forum so check it out if you’d like to try it out before it drops.
